  • Boost in STP efficiency after installing Greenvironmentindiaā€™s Real Time Monitoring (RTM) system at Rajparis Harmony.
  • The RTM has helped to reduce the operating cost of the STP from Rs 55/KL to Rs 30/KL because of higher efficiency of the plant. This has helped in an annual Saving on Fresh water by Rs 40 Lakhs

Rajparis Harmony is a gated community with 228 apartments located at Medavakkam, Chennai. A 200 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was operational there as the STP treated water was designed to be reused for toilet flushing and gardening. But the challenges in improving and maintaining the STPā€™S performance was leading to poor quality treated water and sky rocketing water charges.

The quality of recycled water was poor due to improper sewage treatment process, leading to treatment efficiency of only 30%. The disinfection was improper and the final treated water was odorous. Issues with of frequent equipment failure was also there, which resulted in high operational cost. Other issues faced at site include, excessive sludge due to the absence of a sludge drying bed at Site.

In August 2018 Greenvironmentindia installed the RTM system, which is based on Internet of Things (IoT) for troubleshooting and improving the STPā€™s performance at Rajparis Harmony. After analyzing key parameters of plant performance based real time information from RTM, a process correction was recommended with the replacement of the raw sewage transfer pump from a 2HP submersible pump to a 5HP Cutter pump for higher flow rate and reduced number of operational hours helping in energy conservation. Modification in piping from Collection Tank to Aeration Tank was made to help in maintaining the Batch Cycle in the given timeline. The Pressure Sand Filter and Activated Carbon Filter media were replaced due to poor filtration and discolouration of treated water. To further improve the filtration efficiency and life cycle of Filter media, the backwash line was changed from Filter-feed water to Treated water.

Sludge drying beds were installed for the proper removal of excess sludge, which has been repurposed as fertilizer for gardening. Proper disinfection has been achieved, with the implementation of Automatic ORP based Chlorine Dosing System.

With the improvements in process, STP treated water is now fit to be reused for toilet flushing and gardening purposes. The RTM has helped to reduce the operating cost of the STP from Rs 55/KL to Rs 30/KL because of higher efficiency of the plant. This has helped in an annual Saving on Fresh water by Rs 40 Lakhs.

At Rajparis Harmony, RTM has helped in proper operation and maintenance of STP, which resulted in increased efficiency and improvement in lifecycle of the plant. Thus ultimately RTM bring in savings on operational cost, water footprint and cost of water.
